Praise for Civil Society Involvement in Summit Process |

30 - The National Secretariat for the Summit of the Americas has been commended
for its work in promoting civil society involvement in the Summit process and is
being encouraged to maintain a high level of collaboration with representative
groups in Trinidad and Tobago and the Americas.
Chairman of the Trinidad and Tobago Transparency Institute (TTTI), Mr Victor
Hart offered such congratulations during the organisation’s Annual General
Meeting in Port of Spain on June 26.

In 2009, Trinidad and Tobago will host the Fifth Summit of the Americas.
The Summits of the Americas are held every three to four years and bring
together the 34 democratically elected Heads of State and Government in the
Western Hemisphere to exchange ideas and opinions on the political, economic,
social, and security challenges confronting the region.
From 1994, the Summits process has seen the implementation of several
initiatives advancing improvements in healthcare, education, infrastructure and
security, disaster mitigation and preparedness, environmental conservation, and
democratic governance across the hemisphere - all for the benefit of the people
of the Americas.

Summits to Bring Trade and Investment Opportunities |
|
Trade and investment opportunities for Caribbean enterprises and states are
expected to receive a boost through the hosting of the Fifth Summit of the
Americas and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Trinidad
and Tobago in 2009.
National Coordinator of the Summit process and the CHOGM, Ambassador Luis
Alberto Rodriguez has told Caribbean business leaders the opportunities were
unprecedented.
