CARICOM Secretary General pleased with agenda for Summit

"The Fifth Summit of the
Americas has to change the relationship between our countries and the
countries of the Hemisphere". That's the view of CARICOM Secretary
General Edwin Carrington, who paid an official visit to the National
Secretariat in Port of Spain where he held talks with National
Coordinator Ambassador Luis Alberto Rodriguez and other officials of
the Secretariat.Mr. Carrington said he was encouraged by the
agenda outlined for the Summit as well as the arrangements being put in
place for a successful event. | |

of 34 Member States of the Organisation of American States (OAS) will
gather in Washington, D.C. from tomorrow to discuss Environmental
Sustainability, one of three pillars of the Draft Declaration of
Commitment of Port of Spain for the Fifth Summit of the Americas. |

Representatives
of the Summit Implementation Review Group, which is the political and
negotiating body responsible for coordinating the Summit agenda,
follow-up on Summit mandates, and preparing for future Summits, will
meet in Port of Spain to discuss pending paragraphs of the Draft

New deadline for Summit Essay Competition

There
is still time for Undergraduate and Graduate students from throughout
the Americas to compete for an opportunity to observe proceedings at
the Fifth Summit of the Americas, as the deadline for submissions to
the Fifth Summit Essay Competition has been extended to January 31,
2009.
